ISC 2008 Pictures
Here are some pictures from ISC 2008 in Warrensburg. It was a really busy time. We finished our music events in one day because we had two piano players this year. We had a couple of students get sick, Jewelya and Jacob, who both came down with Strep F infections and had to go home.
The Male Trio placed 2nd with their performance. It is likely they would have won 1st place, but they misplaced their judges forms and that is an automatic 5-point deduction from each judge. It is suspected the judges had to take away points but thought the boys' performance was better than the 1st Place trio, so they recommended our guys for a command performance. Brennen thought that was a pretty good consolation prize, and most of the staff and students agreed with him.
We also had some success in the Open Events. We didn't win any medals, but there were some wins. The boys played 3-on-3 basketball and advanced to the semi-finals on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the girls put up two volleyball teams, one composed of Brianna, Breaha, and Jodi (BBJ); and the other was composed of Mariah, Lauren, and Ana (MLA). BBJ won one game and lost the next, while MLA made it to the finals in the morning bracket and lost to Spokane, MO. But it was a lot of fun!
The best story may be when the boys went to play 3-on-3 basketball on Wednesday, and took a detour by the sandpit volleyball area. Hilarity ensued when the boys decided to enter the volleyball tournament instead...
The boys played a team from New Mexico, and it was undoubtedly the funniest time of the week! It was game where there was no pressure to win but just a time to have fun! The boys play better when they have fun. Everyone was laughing at the silliness of trying to run around in sand and play volleyball. It is much harder than it looks. By the time the game was over, Mrs Bell, Mrs Miller, Bro Brent, and host of other people were in tears from laughing so hard. The boys won the game with 5 straight points when the other team reached game point. Arron gave up his body going for the ball and once jumped high in the air to hit the ball, missed, and landed right on his seat in a bone-jarring impact. Brennen came in for him and promptly did the same thing in the grass and bruised his tailbone. All of this was captured on camera, so once we get it converted we will post it on the web, I also suspect it might make YouTube.com as well.
They then won the next game against Elijah Christian Academy from Puerto Rico, and then lost in the finals to another team from the same school. We found out the other team plays volleyball as a school sport, so the boys have nothing to be ashamed of.
Justin had an excellent week at ISC as he placed in most of his events and placed in CAPS, which is no small feat at ISC. Congratulations Justin!
